A non-partisan, not-for-profit, membership organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of civil liberties in eastern Missouri. The ACLU - Eastern Missouri branch defends civil liberties and the principles of equality and justice in Missouri through litigation, legislation programs and public education. If you believe your civil rights have been violated, call, mail, or submit a complaint online. The ACLU processes claims over a few weeks, and takes cases they believe will impact litigation (creating precedent to expand civil liberties for others). __Note: If filing a complaint on behalf of a person who is incarcerated, please include their Inmate DOC Number__

Tap In Center

For individuals to get legal assistance and connect with local support services. The Tap In Center hours: - every Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Florissant Valley Branch. - First Tuesday of the month 6-8pm at Lewis & Clark branch. At the Tap In Center, individuals can: - Meet with an attorney - Learn their case status and court date information - Apply for a public defender - Connect with local services through the Bail Project - Enroll in a program to receive court reminders - Get assistance navigating the court process - Access the library's free wi-fi Pretrial Support Services are available from the Bail Project - Court reminders - Transportation and employment assistance - Show up in person, call or email to sign-up for pretrial support. The Tap In Center is a member of the St. Louis Community Information Exchange, a coordinated care network of health and social service providers. This unique partnership brings together the St. Louis County Library, the Missouri State Public Defender’s Office, The Bail Project, MacArthur Foundation Safety & Justice Challenge, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Microgrants provide trans and nonbinary people with low-barrier funds and support to: 1. __Correct names__ and/or gender markers on identifying legal documents, 2. Fund gender-affirming __permanent hair removal__ 3. Supply necessities for our __trans siblings behind bars__. The program can help you update your government identification documents, including: - Passport - Driver's License and State ID - Court Order Name Change - Immigration Documents - Tribal IDs At this time they are __NOT __able to offer financial assistance for: - Birth Certificates - Medical needs or procedures - Housing Their advocates will guide you through the process and paperwork, and then they’ll cut you a check for the entire cost.

Center For Women In Transition

The Center works with women who are re-entering the area after incarceration. CWIT is a comprehensive program to help women move from crisis to stability and self-sufficiency. They operate two transitional housing facilities in South St. Louis. Criminal Justice Ministry

"Society of St. Vincent de Paul Agency Head: Carleen Reck, Director Area Served: St. Louis The Criminal Justice Ministry of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louis Council, has the distinct and important mission of serving prisoners, victims, their families, ex-offenders, and others involved in the criminal justice system. The ministry, which was founded in 1979. Provides information, referrals, mentoring, public information and advocacy. Works with prison inmates and their families to provide various services. Ask your parole officer to send a referral to CJM Direct Services Criminal Justice Ministry for short-term assistance, including welcome backpacks, bus passes, clothing vouchers, etc. Free anger management classes for anyone that might need them for probation or parole. Call the main number for dates and times. Release to Rent for Veterans: Limited openings in scattered supportive housing for qualified veterans who are homeless and have a criminal record. Release to Rent: Up to a year of supportive housing for men completing long-term sentences who can work full time and are without community support. IMPORTANT: The best chance of being accepted to the rental programs is to contact them by letter at least six months before your release date, or through a referral from your parole officer.
